Nu de goudprijs alweer een tijdje aan het dalen is, wordt zelfs Jim Rogers, die altijd heel positief is over goud, wat voorzichtiger, zo lijkt het. Hij wijst erop dat de correctie mogelijk ook in het nieuwe jaar aanhoudt. Ongerust is hij hier overigens niet over.

Central Banks hedge dollars with gold

Gold is considered a hedge against the U.S. dollar. This makes it an attractive tool for central banks to protect against any further declines in the value of the U.S. dollar.

"The trend that we are seeing where global central banks are increasing their gold holdings reinforces the critical importance gold plays in an investment context. Gold serves a function no other investment asset can: it preserves capital, diversifies portfolios, and is highly liquid. These principals hold true for central banks as well as individual investors," says Ashish Bhatia, manager of government affairs at the World Gold Council.

Contra Bernanke on the Gold Standard

In his lecture at George Washington University on March 20, 2012,  Federal Reserve chairman Ben Bernanke said that under a gold standard  the authorities' ability to address economic conditions is significantly  curtailed. The Fed chairman holds that the gold standard prevents the  central bank from engaging in policies aimed at stabilizing the economy  after sudden shocks. This in turn, holds the Fed chairman, could lead to  severe economic upheavals. According to Bernanke,.....
